I have both products and the gel isn't the same as the balm. The gel creates kind of a film on the skin, so that you can massage it. It doesn't really sink in. It's pro-recovery spot treatment for fresh scars, post-peeling or post-laser treatments and so on. It's not really meant to be used to repair your moisture barrier, like the balm is.
