Most common problems on E46 is fuel pump and vacuum leaks from old hoses. Get a wireless OBD adapter and OBD Fusion code reader app, read the trouble codes and freeze frame data. If your long term fuel trims are high (>10%) then it's running lean and likely vacuum leak. Fuel pump should be replaced with an OEM Siemens/VDO brand every 100k miles.
