Youare not stupid for buy an Alfa but perhaps a little for buying a Selespeed Get you mechanic to open the fill bung at the fornt of the gear box. if at lot of oil comes out of that opening then the SS oil is leaking on the back plate of the actuator & getting ino the box. Low oil level can be caused by the 'sphere' been faulty. its a part that can be bought

Myson's 147 has had intermittent selespeed issues since we purchased in 2nd hand a few months ago. Until a few days ago, it was running better than ever. Now, it won't engage reverse gear. When trying to put it into reverse, we can hear the actuator tryng to select the gear. The reverse tail light flicks on for a moment but it doesn't engage.
